Wedding Weekend

We decided to squeeze in as much as we could in one week. After our flight landed in Atlanta, my dad picked us up and we spent Thursday night with my parents. Friday morning we woke up bright and early and drove 3 1/2 hours to Enterprise, AL for the wedding of Tara Stewart and Dustin Fowler. It was a fun way to end our 9 day sabbatical from the real world. I didn't get as many pictures as I wanted, but her wedding was absoultely perfect and probably one of the most fun weddings I've been in. I wish I had taken pics of the flowers. The arrangements were gorgeous!! It was extra special b/c the bride and groom introduced Jason and me. Dustin was Jason's law school roommate and Tara and I were Alpha Gam sisters. We wish them a happy future together :)

Their first dance :)

Two of her precious nieces. She has 3 nieces and 2 nephews who are about the cutest things ever. She is a great aunt and will make a great mom one day!

Having fun at the rehearsal dinner. This is the first wedding we BOTH have been in together.
We had a great time catching up with friends. Too bad we live all over the Southeast :(

It was great to see Sarah Christen. We made some great memories together in Bham and Auburn. It seems like only yesterday I was in Enterprise for her wedding in 2005. She is now married with two precious girls. They recently moved back to Enterprise from Bham.

Enjoying the reception

It was so good to catch up w/ Sarah Christen and Laura (Crowe) Terrell. We were all in the same pledge class at Auburn. Laura isn't from Enterprise, but she and her husband now live there. I feel like I need to move to Etown since all these fun girls are there.

So great to see Blake (Dickert) Rhodes. She is another fellow Alpha Gammer. She and her husband now live in Birmingham. She recently opened an "online boutique" called "Off the Cuff". Check out her facebook page (you can get to it from my page). She has some great items!! Tara wore one of her dresses to the rehearsal and it was too cute!

SC and her oldest daughter, Helen Catherine. She is such a sweeet and pretty girl.

Dustin dancing with Cate. You can tell she is crazy about him.

The reception would not be complete w/out The Electric Slide (ha)!!

More of St. Thomas

St. Thomas!!!

Jason and I recently spent a wonderful 6 days in St. Thomas. After a crazy year of job changes, moves, etc. it was just what we needed. I've been to many islands in the Caribbean and beaches in Mexico, but none compare to the Virgin Islands!! The beauty of the mountains along with the crystal waters make it a must see. We enjoyed a day trip to St. John, which was breathtaking. Trunk Bay Beach is probably the most beautiful beach in the USVI. I believe it was recently voted #6 Most Beautiful Beach in the world and I know why.

Other highlights of our trip included a day sail/snorkel to St. John and St. James, dining at some great restaurants in Red Hook, sleeping late, naps on the beach and doing much of nothing!! We also ventured to Charlotte Amalie (main town in St. Thomas) and did some duty free shopping at Little Switzerland. Didn't plan to buy what we did, but you can't beat tax free-right?? We also took the tram to Paradise Point, which has a great view of the bay at Charlotte Amalie. So far this has been our favorite vacation, with Carmel/San Fran in a close 2nd. We are looking forward to going back (hopefully sooner than later)!!

Enjoy the pictures.....

Making the News in MS

Most people want their name or picture in the newspaper for good reasons. When my name has appeared in the paper it was for my wedding, engagement, school accomplishments, community service, etc. Well.... I never dreamed I would make the news for lying on the ground in the red dirt with my husband putting a diaper on me. Yes, that is how I made my debut on http://www.breezynews.com/ (the local 24 hr. online news site for Kosciusko) I do have a good explanation..... I'll explain below.

Jason and I took part in the Corporate Sports Challenge as part of the M&F Bank team, which takes place during the Central MS Fair in Kosciusko. One of the races was the Baby Relay Race, which consisted of running, placing a diaper on your teammate, picking them up and running back to the finish line. What looks like hugh welps on my legs was actually red dirt. See, this event was held at the local "Riding Arena". Doesn't every town have a local "Riding Arena" (haha)?? We didn't do too well in this event, but our team did finish 2nd overall. Jason said the caption should say "Here is the new girl in town, Gena Pope, and she loves to wear diapers". Bless my heart...maybe my next picture will be more attractive or at least a more attractive pose.

Weekend in Oxford (MS that is)....

Although I love my hometown of Oxford, AL, it is a world away from Oxford, MS. My first visit to Oxford/Ole Miss was in the 8th grade for an AU/Ole Miss football game. I immediately feel in love with the town!! I actually considered going to Ole Miss my junior year of high school, but my heart and allegiance led me to Auburn. I’ve been back to Ole Miss several times for football games, but have never had a chance to really enjoy the town and square. Some sweet friends of ours in Kosciusko invited us to their condo in Oxford for the weekend along with a few other couples. We had a grand time, despite the heat and did plenty of socializing, eating and shopping!!! I failed to take any pictures, but wanted to share some of my new favorite places in Oxford. I know many of my Bama friends come over for games and these places below are worth checking out:

SNACKBAR RESTAURANT

The food was soooo divine!! Try the Lobster Mac and Cheese if you go :) Sounds strange, but trust me you will love it! Prices are higher than your average restaurant, but well worth it!! The proprietors of City Grocery (another well known Oxford restaurant) also own Snack Bar.

LULU’s Boutique

This a new shoe store off of the square that recently opened. Awesome selection of flats and sandals!! Most shoes ranged from $25-$40. I bought some turquoise stoned sandals for $28 and I think I saw the same similar pair at Belk for around $70.

BROOKS COLLECTION JEWELRY

Okay, my David Yurman loving friends…. If you want to save your husband some a little bit of $$ on your next DY purchase…..try this store first. They are not an Authorized DY dealer, but they guarantee authenticity. You can save anywhere from $50-$75 off on any given piece of jewelry.

I’M ALREADY LOOKING FORWARD TO THE AU/OLE MISS GAME OCTOBER 30TH!!!
